Asking for what you need isn't being selfish, it's something that you've learnt. Highlighted in a psychic reading. We often go to great lengths to avoid expressing our needs, our family upbringing, and social conditioning and that self sabotaging inner voice constantly reminds us that putting ourselves first is selfish and wrong and that we should always put others first. However, it's only from a position of having our needs filled that we can actually begin to help satisfy others needs satisfactory. Asking for what we want and admitting that we need something is admitting that we are lacking in something, which may be interpreted by our negative inner critical voice as being vulnerable, empty, shallow, worthless, valueless unsuccessful and even shameful. By asking for what we need we may be refused, therefore re-enforcing our self belief of rejection and being turned down and maybe trivialised again. We may have a deeply ingrained fear of success, being comfy cosy in our tiny safe existence may be threatened by actually getting what we want, and, having to handle the success. The success that we craved for may require us to leave behind that which we feel safe with and we may loose it.
