Major Arcana The twenty two cards of the Major Arcana represents the archetypal story of human development. The journey is often referred to as the "Fools journey" depicted by a series of universal situations, behaviours, feelings and reactions that we have all experienced at some point in our lives and most people can relate to them. All of the Major Arcana cards represent a particular archetype that the "Fool" passes through or will experience on his or her journey. In a reading the Major Arcana cards represent areas of importance and may offer the querent insight into a situation, a resource, or a personal attitude that may need to be adopted or challenged in order to proceed through a challenging situation. They may also offer the querent a beneficial path to a potential outcome. In a spiritual sense the Major Arcana represents the souls journey from being incarnated onto this planet through the many experiences and opportunities for growth that it has to offer and returning to the ethereal world a much wiser and complete being. The journey is cyclical as not all the lessons or experiences that we need to learn are achieved in one life time cycle. In our day-to-day lives we are faced with challenges and goals that have beginnings and points of completion, for example in our relationships, careers or the development of a project or particular ambition. The Hanged man emphasises suspension and the need to let go of living in the material world and to seek other perspectives The Emperor represents authority, order, reason, power, control, husband and father. The Empress represents the parental archetype. Mother, wife, fertility, abundance, healing, nurturing and giving birth The Hermit is a seeker of knowledge and wisdom that comes from within, often gained by periods of solitude or standing back and removing one's self from a situation in order to gain a deeper insight into a situation. The Judgment card symbolises rising like a phoenix from the ashes, meaning new life and energy has been brought into a situation that you thought had ended, you emerge stronger, smarter and more powerful. The Justice card is about head over heart clear balanced thinking and decision making. The Lovers refers to the importance of love in a persons life, and in particular to the choices and adjustments one has to make regarding a significant other. The Magician is an intelligent and skilful communicator and an expert at whatever he chooses to focus his energy on. The Moon card indicates the stimulation of the unconscious mind. Our imaginations gets carried away with fantasy and we begin to experience confusing and sometimes worrying thoughts and emotions. The High Priestess represents the deep, subtle aspects of the female and the mysterious hidden, psychic forces that lie within and beyond The Star tarot card speaks of peace, calm, serenity, hope for the future, replenishment and renewed faith The Sun card signifies optimism, positivity, joy, happiness, success, vitality and fulfilment in life.
