Five of Swords The Five of Swords card describes two men who have lost a battle, they reflect on their defeat and humiliation as they look out from a shore line to the open choppy water where some small islands lie on the horizon. Two swords lie on the ground whilst three more are held by a man in the foreground who's back is turned away from the others his expression is maliciously victorious as he slyly looks back over his shoulder towards the other two men. The sky is grey with jagged clouds and there's a sense of cunning in the air. The five of swords comes as a warning that you or some one around you may be be acting in a destructive vindictive manner, or that you may be feeling bitter or jealous of some one. The card also suggests that this may not be your time to succeed in a particular area of your life that you had hoped for. Don't be so down hearted, with patience and perseverance you will be in a stronger position to achieve your goal at another time. Upright Key words: A fall out with friends, Was it worth it, a hollow victory, low self-esteem, success at all costs, liking your wounds, defeat, conflict, disputes, forced to retire, humiliation, wounded pride, arguing, ridicule, cunning, gloating, plotting, underhandedness, betrayal, malicious gossip, spite, defeat, theft, Possible meanings during a reading: An important relationship has broken up for you. Not a lot can be done to rectify the situation and the best course of action may be to pack up your emotional suitcase and move on. A process of emotional toughening up may take place after the pain of a break up or injustice has been done to you. An empty victory has happened, although there is a clearly a winner and loser in the battle, it is not clear that the cost of winning was worth it. A need to way up the cost of all-out war with your competitors and realisation of the devastation that this may cause, versus taking a more conciliatory approach to the situation. A battle at all costs and not considering the consequences. This may be a time for you to swallow your pride and admit your limitations before proceeding. You may loose this battle but there will be many more opportunities that come your way. A time to retreat gracefully before you get hurt. Being spiteful and malicious will not get you what you want.
