Shuffling tarot Cards First of all choose a spread that you would like to use from the ones on the following pages. Each spread requires a particular number of cards. Once you've decided which spread to use you will know how many cards you need to select. A Tarot reading process begins with the reader and the person asking the question to still their minds and create a calm reflective state. The cards are then shuffled whilst contemplating the question. At some point during the shuffling it will feel the right moment to stop. At this point there are two methods that can be used. In the first method the cards are offered to the querent (person asking the question) who cuts the deck into three piles from left to right and reassembling them in reverse order. The person conducting the reading takes the required number of cards from the top of the pile and lays them out in the chosen spread ready for interpretation. In the second method the cards are shuffled by the reader and fanned out on the table top. The querent is then asked to select the number of cards that the reader requires for the spread. Alternatively, the reader can select the cards for the querent and lay them down in the chosen pattern or spread. It is important that the cards are not turned over head-to-toe.
